Why do so many Slavic people from northeastern Europe suntan easily, while the Nordic people of NW Europe burn
The Slavs of Poland, Lithuania, and Russia are usually light haired like the Anglo-Saxons and various other Nordic peoples of Britain and western Scanddinavia, yet the eastern Europeans seem to darken quite easily in the sun with never burning. On the other hand, we have the age old stereotype of the English and their propensity for lobsterback sunburns. This is also true, though to a lesser extent, of the Irish, the Scots, the Norwegians, and the Swedes. Why then do so many Slavs, who hail from an area equally as far north in latitude as the British Isles, seem to get so dark and sun kissed every summer?
