Pros and Cons of Cartesian Skepticism?

I am currently writing a paper on Chris Nolan's Inception and Momento and to relate them to Cartesian Skepticism. I am trying to find the pros and cons of the philosophy. Everywhere I look the language used is very complicated. So could someone please explain, in plain English, the pros and cons of Descartes philosophy?
