Fiction Books About Italy, Greece, Turkey, or Egypt?

There is a very good book called "Middle" by Jeffrey Eugendies that starts in Greece early in the 20th century. Because of conflict the characters are forced to flee to America where the rest of the book takes place in Detroit and then San Francisco. I will warn you this book is ultimately about a that attempts to explain himself and the events that led to his birth defect. That being said, it is a wonderful book, full of culture, and informative on "the way things were". I highly recommend it.
