Can my husband's name be on the birth certificate if he is out of the country?

Well, I am 36 weeks pregnant, and my doctor has decided to deliver me in one week due to preeclampsia as well as some other pregnancy issues. My husband told me today that he has to leave to go back to his country for a few weeks due to a family emergency and that he is leaving in like a day or so. Obviously he won't be there for the delivery and birth for our son, but my mother will be. The question is, will I be able to put his name on our son's birth certificate, or will it be issues?I am in Virginia,by the way. Thanks!
